Isobella King

Master if Counselling (Dist.), Bachelor of Health Sciences (Psychology, Health Education)

Kia Ora! I am an empathetic and evidence informed registered counsellor with over four years of experience supporting diverse clients through therapeutic interventions. I identify as bi-cultural (Pakeha and Fijian Indian).

About Me

I have a strong commitment to ethical practice, cultural responsiveness and client empowerment. I also bring over four years of experience navigating the combined demands of counselling in a mental health context. I enjoy gardening, particularly growing cut flowers. I value integrity, collectivism, connectedness, compassion and transparency.

Counselling Services

I have 11 years’ experience in the health sector, including disability, physical and mental health support work. I am trained in Solution Focused therapy, and I integrate somatic therapy approaches, supporting clients to work not only cognitively but also through embodied awareness and nervous system regulation.

Some changes I have noticed in clients during and after attending counselling:

  • Feeling empowered to set boundaries, say no, and ask for what they need.
  • Increased capacity to sit with discomfort, move through emotions, and express how they are feeling.
  • A more developed sense of self-awareness, including clarity around values and what is meaningful to them.
  • Sharing their authentic self more openly with loved ones.
  • Greater ability to make decisions with confidence.
  • A stronger and more stable sense of self.
  • Reduced reliance on external validation.
  • Feeling comfortable voicing disagreements or alternative viewpoints without fear of judgment or dismissal.
  • Increased awareness of, and curiosity about, the systems they function within.
  • Feeling safe to express cultural needs or challenge dominant narratives.
  • Holding their experiences as part of their story, rather than their entire identity.
