I am a registered Clinical Psychologist with over twelve years of experience supporting adults in both community mental health settings and private practice.
I work with adults who may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or challenged by different aspects of life. You might be experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, or anger, adjusting to a major life change, or feeling the ongoing impact of past trauma. I also support people who are finding relationships difficult, are struggling with sleep, or facing other challenges.
I offer a warm, respectful, and non-judgmental space where you can take your time to talk about what is going on for you. Together, we can gently explore your experiences, at a pace that feels right for you.
My approach is collaborative and tailored to your individual needs. I believe that feeling truly heard and understood can be an important first step. From there, we can begin to make sense of things – find an explanation of why your problems started and what is maintaining them. I will offer you different strategies and practical skills to work towards your values and the goals you derive and that feel meaningful and manageable for you.
My work is informed by evidence-based psychological approaches such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and eye-movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), while always keeping your unique situation and strengths in mind.
I welcome people from diverse backgrounds and aim to work in a culturally respectful and inclusive way.
I’m originally from Germany, and have been living and working in Aotearoa New Zealand for nearly two years – a turn in my life I am very grateful for. I am based in North Canterbury with my partner, our three children, a dog and three chickens.
I offer online (video) therapy sessions for adults across Aotearoa New Zealand, with flexible appointment times, which can include evening consultations if required. Many people find online therapy to be a supportive and practical option, offering:
Sessions are held on a trusted and secure telehealth platform. You will receive a link via email once an appointment is booked.
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s important that you feel comfortable. I offer a free 15-minutes phone consultation so we can get to know each other and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
You can also send me an email, if you prefer this: katharina@kd-psychology.co.nz
Once you’ve had your free consult and we decide that we like to move forward with treatment, we will schedule an initial thorough assessment where we will agree on a treatment plan together.
I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you on your journey towards meaningful change.
