Lorraine Fensom

Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Bioenergetic Therapist

I provide a caring, supportive, space where people can strengthen their emotional wellbeing and navigate life’s challenges. I believe the goal of therapy is more than the absence of symptoms – it is to have greater “aliveness”, pleasure, joy and love.

Counselling/Therapy Services

As a relationally oriented psychotherapist I combine talk therapy with somatic work – mind and body.  This includes increasing body awareness, grounding, breathing, plus movement. These methods help you access, understand and express emotion and blocked energy, releasing vitality into your mature self. I support you in gaining a greater understanding and awareness of your old patterns and how they impact on you in the present day.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

The therapeutic relationship provides a place of safety for healing to begin. I work from a person-centered approach so anything you want to explore will be treated with total respect and without judgement.  In general, most personal problems reflect past relationship difficulties, arising from lack of nurturing or from trauma.  It is my job to relate to you in a way that enables you to become more aware of the patterns you are caught up in and to support you while you tap into your own autonomy and strength. I address issues at bodily, thinking and emotional levels and help you to tolerate and resolve old pain which means it is likely you will also experience more joy and pleasure.

Background and Experience

I have been in private practice since 2016.  My practice is a mixture of privately funded therapy and counselling funded by ACC Sensitive Claims.

Prior to going into private practice I worked for a variety of NGO’s including Family Violence Intervention Services, Relationship Aotearoa, Stopping Violence Services. I held a position with Centrecare Esperance and the Department of Attorney General when living in Australia. I engaged in some shorter-term work through a contract I had with EAPWorks for several years.
